American Gold Eagle Design
The Gold Eagle is often considered to be one of America's most beautiful coins. The obverse–designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens–features Lady Liberty carrying a torch and olive branch. Her figure personifies peace and hope for a free America as she walks before a rising sun. The border is lined with 50 five-pointed stars to represent each of the nation's states.
Designed by Miley Busiek, the reverse showcases a family of bald eagles. The female and her chick sit in their nest, while the male returns carrying an olive branch in his talons. This side is inscribed with the coin's weight and denomination.
